i have been so busy. i can't even get through the mail let alone brush my hair lately. dude, i can't even remember when the last time i brushed my hair was? i don't even know if i have a brush, i'd have to borrow seamus's.
a few things, seamus started kindergarten. there was a staggered start so she has only gone two days her first week. we took her to orientation and then her first day. she was nervous but the night before she was jumping up and down telling eric how she was going to school the next day. we all walked her over and sirus proceeded to cry again about he doesn't want her to go to college because he doesn't want her to live in her own house. after kindergarten, they all came and picked me up and we went out for lunch. seamus told us all about her day and how much fun it was. her 2nd day we were on time but we forgot her name tag and her snack.... once i stop getting in the way and eric has their routine figured out it will be fine. although i am thinking about volunteering in her classroom once a week in the morning. it would allow me to walk her to school and spend a few minutes with her in her class. i need to talk to my boss about it, since i would be getting in a little bit late (9am!!) but we'll see.
we took sirus today to his preschool orientation. he has been talking all summer about teacher bobbie. but he got to meet his other teachers and some of the other kids. i am excited for him to go to this new pre-school. it has a much better feel to it than the one seamus went to. he is going to be awesome.
one thing is for sure, i need to stop buying them school clothes! they have a ton now.
oh! and we went to DURANGO! it was so awesome. it was high as hell but totally beautiful.
we got their thursday and had dinner with ashlie who stayed with us in Idaho. it was a great dinner and it was fun to talk to her. she gave us all kinds of tips about where to go riding. the second we got off the plane i was instantly parched. so parched i made eric pull over to get water because i wasn't going to last. i tried to drink as much as possible. friday we got up and drove to the hermosa tours shuttle pick up point for the hermosa creek trail. they came and got us and we drove up, up, up. there was another couple in the van who had done the ride the day before. they had come from altitude so it had no effect on them. it had a huge effect on us. most of the hermosa creek trail is down hill, or at least a pedaler's downhill. until about 13 miles or so in and it goes up. and up and up and UP. not really that far but it was super hot and i was working really hard and wondering why at the top of each steep pitch eric wasn't there waiting for me. the ride starts at like 9000ft and ended about 7000 ft. when we were done i was totally beat. we stopped for lunch but i could barely stand and i couldn't finish my lunch. there was a kid at the table next to us who was having lunch with his dad and his dad's friend, the kid was home from SPU.
we went back to the hotel and i fell asleep for a few hours. when i woke up i felt like hell. the altitude and the heat had done it to me. i took a shower then we decided to go to a movie, District 9. under noraml cercumstances i think i would have liked the movie but since i felt hung over and the camera bounces all over and there are gross noises and people puking and what not, we had to leave otherwise i was going to hurl right then and there. back to the hotel and i fell asleep while eric went and got us dinner and he had 2 beers. while all of this was going on we realized that the lock on our room wasn't working. i slept in the unlocked room that entire time. eric single handedly moved us into the new room and then i fell asleep.
in the moring i was feeling much better. we got in the car and drove to the Junction Creek Trail head. and we started riding up, up, up. i was taking it waaaay easy. waaaaay easy. there were some crazy swwitchbacks which i was able to ride only a few of but i was happy with that. as i was walking up through some, a runner passed and told me to not be discouraged since it was totally worth it. later on i was passed by another runner who i actually rode behind for quite a while. she was running at a perfect pace for me that day. eventually she stopped
and i had to keep going. we stopped at gudy's rest but it was in the sun and i had been working hard so i had to go sit in the shade for a little. then we continued up. we took the colorado trail side up and went all the way to high point around 9500ft where this photo was taken by some dudes who were visiting from SF. we took the dry fork trail down and then a connector trail that starts with an H and then we were done. allegedly it was 21 miles with 6500 ft of elevation. it was a fantastic ride. funny thing is we ran into 3 women who we had run into the previous day out on the hermosa creek trail. why, oh why though was i walking both times we saw them? we also saw Willow Koerber out there. we went for lunch and then i took a nap. later we went to visit Mary and made plans to ride in the morning. eric and i then went and CHOWED down on some sushi. it was so good. funniest thing tho, we sat at the bar and the bartender asked eric if he wanted a mojito to which he replied with a "hell no!"
in the morning we rode from the hotel over to Mary's. She made us some coffee and then Linda came over and then we headed over to Horse Gulch. It was a ton of fun. Not as much climbing but still quite a bit. They were having a race there so we stopped to watch for a bit. then they took us over to test tracks. but now though it had rained a tiny bit but then it got super sunny out. test tracks is fun, but i had a really hard time since it was getting so hot out and there were so many steep uphill sections. it really did me in so we didn't stay very long. but we did see Willow there, too. we got out onto the road and headed out to Bread. but i almost came to tears when we found out that they only take cash and we had none. so we road back into town and stopped at the bagel place and i had the most glorious bagel sandwich ever. we showered and then headed out for a drive over to Silverton. talk about amazing!!! we were in the mountain passes up to almost 11,000 ft!! Silverton itself is at 9000ft. the views were amazing and of course we didnt' have our camera.... the drive was scary as hell but we got through it. when we got back into town we walked around and just hung out until dinner.
in the morning we packed everything up and headed to the airport. the nice lady there waived our bike fees and i finished my book. then we ran into my coach! we knew she was out of town but we also knew she was getting back that same morning, so she got off the plane then we got right back onto it. funny.
we definitly want to go back someday because there is a ride that goes up to almot 12000 ft that is on our list of things to do. what an amazing weekend it was. when we landed in seattle i found out that i qualified for xterra nationals, which was super exciting. so now i am working on getting that done. i am exhausted!!
